Cannonau Viniola Riserva 2015 , red dry
SARDINIAN WINE Cannonau Viniola Riserva 2015 15% alcohol content Grape: Cannonau Colour: Intense ruby red with a slight purplish edge; clear. Aroma: Of considerable intensity and breadth where aromas of blackberry jam, vegetal and slightly balsamic notes emerge. Palate: Dry and soft with a pleasant return of fruit; excellent structure and well-expressed tannins, warm and enveloping with a long and clean finish.
This wine undergoes fermentation and maceration in truncated cone wooden barrels for about 20-22 days, then malolactic fermentation in barriques follows. Cannonau is another of those grape that tell you a lot of history. Known in Spain as Garnacha and in France as Grenache, it has supposedly come to Sardinia during the centuries long Spanish occupation, adapting so well to the magic island environment to become a local grape. Cannonau is a late-ripening grape variety, which is best suited to hot and dry conditions, and is characterised by a medium alcohol level, soft acidity and generous red fruit flavours (raspberry and strawberry) alongside subtle floral and white pepper spice notes.
