TALIAN WINE - SARDINIA Cagnulari 2018 13% alcohol content Colour: Deep ruby red, tending towards violet. Aroma: Intense, seductive and typical, with hints of liquorice and forest fruits. Palate: Rounded, smooth, intense and persistent, with assertive notes of red berry fruit and Marasca cherry. Serving temperature: 18 – 20° C Alcohol level: 12.5 – 13.5 % vol. Matching: Works well with mid-seasoned cheeses, risottos and boiled or roasted white or red meats.
If you love Rioja wines, you will fall in love with Cagnulari! This is a rare grape variety from Sardinia, seldom found outside Sardinia and regarded as one of the island's regional specialties. The fruit profile can range from red berries through to spiced plums and notes of black pepper. Ample tannins support the wine, making it worthy of a few years aging. The other name for the grape, Graciano, a grape also local to the Rioja and Navarre regions and not widely grown in other Spanish wine regions, unfolds the history pages when Sardinia was for many centuries a possession of the Kings of Spain, and probably a governor from Rioja or Navarre introduced this grape to Sardinia to feel less homesick.
