The Greco vine would now be extinct were it not for Mastroberardino's patient rescue work which, as is well known, has been in constant progress since the end of World War II. This grape is bamed "Greco" (="Greek") because it was first brought into the terroir more than two thousands years ago when the first Greek settlers founded a "new town' (nea poli = Napoli)
